George Pierrakos is Professor at the University of West Attica Greece in the Department of Business Administration in the Division of Social Policy. He is also visiting professor at Leeds Beckett University. His specialization is in Organisation and Management of Healthcare Services with an interest in Primary Healthcare and Long-term Care.
Concerning his administrative duties, Professor Pierrakos is Director of the Master’s program Management of Health and Social Care Services of the Department of Business Administration of the University of Western Attica and Deputy Director of the Social Management Research Laboratory, while he was Chairman of the Department of Business Administration and Consultant Head to the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of West Attica.
He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Health Quality Assurance Organization.
His research interest is focused in Social Policy, Health, Social Welfare, Social Security and Family Policy, Poverty and social exclusion, Analysis of Long-Term Care health systems, Quality Assurance in Health and Social Care Services, and he has participated in many Research and Study Programs such as Evaluation of Primary Health Network and Local Community Teams, Gap Analysis and Mapping of Healthcare needs and services in Greece financial resources, and prioritization of projects in regions of Greece, Inclusive development, Review of measures to deal with child poverty and social exclusion in Greece, Cancer patient care networks, as project manager or member of research teams. He has significant teaching experience in Health Systems Organization, Health Management and Health Economics and Social Policy in undergraduate and postgraduate programs and is the author and co-author of several publications.
