Maria Mitrosyli is a former Professor at the University of Western Attica, Department of Business Administration (Sector of Social Policy). She has a Doctorate in health law from the University Paris X (Doctorat d’ Etat en Droit), MA, DEA in Sociology of Legal Systems from University Paris X and Law Degree from University of Athens. Maria Mitrosyli is also a Lawyer of Athens and President of the Special Control Committee for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Mental Disorders of the Ministry of Health. Furthermore, she has served as an Assistant Ombudsman, with responsibility for the Social Protection Circle (Health-Welfare- Social or Insurance and Protection of Vulnerable Groups of the Population).

Since 1989 she has been an expert for the European Commission, the WHO and the Ministry of Health. She was instrumental in reforming the National Mental Health Legislation and has participated in more than 16 research projects of the WHO, the European Commission, the Ministry of Health and Labor with institutions such as the University of Western Attica (former TEI of Athens), National Center for Social Studies, Panteion University, CNRS, the European Commission and the WHO.

The research projects concerned both the legal and ethical/bioethical dimensions of the organization and operation of health services, the provision of services by health professionals and the protection of patients’ rights, as well as subjects of social integration, psychosocial rehabilitation, quality and social economy.

She has 40 Greek and international publications in reputable peer-reviewed scientific journals, conference proceedings and collective volumes and has participated as a speaker in 110 Greek and international conferences and seminars.
